About Therese M. Malm

Let me tell you a little bit about myself and as I do I hope you get a feel for how I operate my business and a sense of what it would be like to work with TM Consulting Group, Inc. First and foremost, I genuinely care about not only what we accomplish together, but also how we achieve those tangible results.

I’ve been working in the human resource management field for over 20 years. I’ve worked with all kinds of clients—from small businesses to large corporations—in a wide variety of industries. The one thing that I’ve found is that even though the environments, goals and cultures may vary quite a bit among these clients, one thing is very consistent and that is that whatever the purpose of the engagement, everything boils down to people. "People stuff" can be quite daunting and can seem overwhelming at times, not to mention frustrating. My goal is to make all that easier and to make sure you, your business and your team have the tools you need to keep it that way.

My belief is that the HR processes of team building/development, staff alignment with operating values and performance management procedures all exist to provide the framework to achieve your business goals. They are the tools and the means to an end. All too often they are implemented in a vacuum “because we have to” with no substantive connection to the business and to your desired goals.

My approach to any engagement is to sit down with you (and your team if you’d like) to understand what concerns you have and what your goals are, both for your business and for your work environment. It is critical that these two be aligned in order to achieve the results you want for your business, your customers and your team.

Once we’ve had that initial discussion then we determine whether TM Consulting Group, Inc. is right for you. If we agree that it is, then we will begin our work together to make that “people stuff” a lot easier.

Just in case you’re interested in my credentials, etc., here they are. My 20+ years of experience in human resource management began after I received my B.S. from the University of Wisconsin—Madison. While working I earned my M.A. in Human Resource Management from Truman State University. I’m a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). I've also received the following certifications: Achieve Global Certified Facilitator (formerly Zinger-Miller), Disney Institute for Leadership and Quality, FISH Philosophy and Franklin Covey Time Management Certification.

I’m also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt which, at its core, is simply a structured way to analyze the efficiency (speed, cost, quality) of a process based on what is of value to the customer. So even when engagements do not primarily have a process-efficiency focus, I tend to view my clients’ environments through an efficiency/customer-focused lens.

Some examples of my writing include the book Real World Human Resource Strategies that Work which contains a chapter I penned entitled "Learning—It's Everybody's Business." (Order a copy today!) My work was also featured in the book Beyond Reengineering: How the Process-Centered Organization is Changing Our Work and Our Lives by Michael Hammer.

I hope this gives you a small window of insight into my background and experience as well as a general feeling for who I am and the way my company approaches the business of consulting. To modify a famous tag line—“we’re a different kind of consulting company”. Our services may be similar to what other consultants offer, but our approach, commitment to your business and belief that we’re in this together is what makes us pretty unique consultants. In fact, it is our hope that working with us always feels like working with family (without the dysfunction!).

So give TM Consulting Group, Inc. a call or an email to give me a chance to demonstrate my passion for helping businesses thrive and grow by creating the kind of work environment in which we would all feel privileged to participate.

I look forward to meeting you! —Therese
